Active Kids

The Active Kids Program is an Outreach program of the UBC School of Kinesiology. We provide recreational gymnastics, sport, and physical activity programs and classes to individuals and communities of all ages and levels of ability. Our philosophy emphasizes fun, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, organized, safe, purposeful, and active movement experiences. We encourage physical literacy development and sport-specific skill acquisition, and promote lifelong participation in physical activity.

What are three traits that you look for in a student volunteer/worker? (~150 words)

Vision: Be a recognized UBC leader and a signature program of the School of Kinesiology for engaging with diverse communities through evidence based physical activity programming for children and youth, and for developing rich experiential learning opportunities for Kinesiology students, while supporting academic learning, research, and strategic initiatives for the School.

Mission: Develop and deliver exceptional evidence based physical activity programs. Programs are focused on positive sport experiences, physical literacy development, and empowering children and youth to be healthy and physically active for life. UBC students gain valuable professional career experience, access to leadership and training resources, and practical application experience enhancing their academic pursuits.

What are three traits that you look for in a student volunteer/worker?

  • Passion for working with Children and leading physical activity programs.

  • Leadership, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Adaptative, Positive, approachable, friendly

  • Ability to professional represent School of Kinesiology

  • Experience instructing developmentally appropriate programs for children

  • Experience working with people from variety of backgrounds/cultures

What is a piece of advice that you would give to students attending the Kindustry career fair?

Go around to all the booths and get to know the different programs and areas that the School of Kinesiology has to offer. Connect, reach out and network. Don’t be shy and ask a lot of questions We are here to provide you with as much information as possible!
