Mission Statement
The KUS BIPOC Committee aims to create an inclusive environment for Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color here in the KUS. We strive to create events dedicated to the needs of our Black communities, Indigenous communities, and communities of colour, and maintain an open dialogue that allows us to listen to and uphold the greater interests of these students.
Our Values
Advocacy.
We are committed to upholding the interests of all BIPOC students in the School of Kinesiology. We continue to strive to amplify previously silenced voices and address the needs of students in BIPOC communities.
Transparency.
We are committed to being as open and transparent as possible in all of our actions as a committee.
Personal Growth.
We recognize that we all have unlearning and relearning to do as it relates to racism and discriminatory practices. We are committed to bettering ourselves, and holding ourselves accountable in every aspect of our work.
Excellence.
We are committed to emphasizing and highlighting the academic, creative, and professional excellence of BIPOC students and communities.
Anti-Racist.
We are committed to being actively anti-racist, denouncing racism as we see, hear and experience it, and providing support to others in our community as they do the same.
Education.
We are committed to continuously learning from others, raising awareness surrounding issues in BIPOC communities, and teaching others how to be better allies to BIPOC students.
